Note: This guide will walk you through the process of setting up your Seaboard M with Cubase 14

The Seaboard M uses multiple channels of MIDI to achieve polyphonic dimensions of touch. If you're using Cubase, you're in luck — Steinberg has continued improving its MPE support, making it easier than ever to get started.

Step 1: Connect Your Seaboard M

Plug your Seaboard M into your computer using a USB-C cable or via Bluetooth (Mac Only)

Open ROLI Dashboard to confirm the device is connected and set to MPE Mode.

Step 2: Configure the Instrument Track in Cubase

Open your Cubase project.

Add a track by going to Project ➝  Add Track ➝ Instrument. Select an MPE-compatible instrument, such as Equator2.

On the MIDI Inputs, select Seaboard Block M (NoteExp)

*The Seaboard M may appear as “Seaboard Block M” in the input section of your instrument track.

Step 3: Enable MPE

In Studio Setup, select Seaboard Block M from the MIDI column, then set the VST Note Expression Assignment Preferred option to “As Recommended by Instrument” and click Save.

In the Routing section of Cubase, make sure that “Any” is selected for both the Seaboard Block input and Equator2.

In the Note Expression panel, make sure that “Record MIDI as Note Exp.” is checked. This ensures that any expressive data from the Seaboard will be captured in your MIDI track.

Step 4: Recording

Simply arm the track and record your MIDI notes as you normally would. All notes, including their note expression data, will be recorded onto the instrument track, and the audio will be output through the plug-in’s stereo channel.

With these simple steps, you can set up your ROLI Seaboard M with Cubase 14 and start using MPE to create expressive and dynamic music. If you encounter any issues, be sure to contact the Support Team for further assistance. Happy music-making!
